Recap Of My Second Show

Not that many people came, but it was fun. Columbus's hardcore scene is a joke. I'm really glad a few of my friends showed up or else the place would have been empty. Broke As A Joke and Triceratops were awesome. Cro-Mags and No Warning Covers ruled. Despite All Against were very moshy but were not that bad for being kids from Delaware (Ha). And Glue (who got there four hours late, and played at 8:50 PM, the show had to be over at 9:00 PM) were really good, wish they could have played a full set. The last song they got to play was a Stop And Think Cover. All in all, I really think I am not gonna book another show unless its someone I really want to see.

Recap Of My First Show

From what Andrew told me my show went well (he was surprised that I got money out of some of our friends). Empire played great. New songs are awesome, definitely a band to be on the look out for. All My Strength Canceled. Supercontinent was really really awesome. Moutheater was really great. I am very happy with the turn out of the show seeing that Columbus has a very flaky hardcore scene. And almost everyone payed for the show (even Eric). I might do another one someday...

The First Show I Have Ever Booked

Flyer by Angry Andy*

So this is the first show (and maybe last time) I do this depending on how it goes. It seems like a decent amount of people are going to come out so hopefully the bands will at least get gas money. If you can't come out to the show check out Moutheater.

There's no turning back. No repenting, no remorse.

Once again my dude Wes is on top of all things in Columbus (his latest article). Last night myself and other down dudes went out to see Hatebreed at the Newport Music Hall. This was my Fifth or Sixth time seeing them at this venue and the band themselves did not disappoint. The beginning half of the set was nu-er songs for all the nu-moshers, but after they played their last few singles the "Old-school" songs started. All these songs off their first LP, Satisfaction Is the Death of Desire, one of my top 10 favorite hardcore records. During their last song all hell broke lose... don't really want to go into details, but basically some nazi got stomped the fuck out (damn straight edgers). For a different perspective (they were on the balcony ha) check out Weedsteeler's Blog for more info and pics.

Recap Of The Trip

I was taking my Mother to Wisconsin to drop her off because my sister had surgery (and mom was going to take care of her for an undecided amount of time). We left at about 11am and were making record time. After Indianapolis I volunteered to drive the rest of the way. Before the next exit the transmission went. So for the second summer in a row I got to sit in a hot car and wait for a tow truck. We got towed back to Indianapolis and got a hotel room. And then luckily a friend of mine that happened to be in town and we tried to go see Ringworm (who canceled) and then went to a book store before dropping me off. I ordered a pizza (it was ok) and started watching Vision Quest but fell asleep 10 minutes in.
And today was to be me wondering around Chicago, buying records and toys. But instead it was my Mom and I finding out our car had a bum transmission and this would have happened no matter what. I just really wish it would have happened in town and not in the middle of no where. So we rented a car and have drove home. So I will have to get dropped off and picked up for work the rest of the week.

I am on the mend

This to me is not a Live Journal. And this not me telling the world that I am alright, or that things are easier or back the same. I feel a lot different, and a lot of people that know me better have said I don't act the same. And it bothers me. I try not to go out. I keep blowing up on people. I am a lot more angry then I have been for along time. I keep having bad dreams. I keep trying to see how long I can sleep. But that ends up just being me rolling around for hours. And this is not me wanting attention. This is me trying to write down how I feel, and I have been trying to do it for about a week. And it always comes out like this, Chaotic and random. I can not change the things I have done. I just have to learn from my mistakes. And embrace what I have done that was good, And never forget those times.

I live in columbus again...

I have seen almost all of my friends... things seem to be maybe getting at least a bit back to normal. We got kicked out of a hotel party last night, all because tucker cut his foot (what a dumbass). Ohhh and I started this a few days ago...

Self-indulgence is the rule (selfish motherfucker)

Two for one doller, 16 OZ. IBC Cream Soda from the dollar store. Amazing. Oh and the weather is changing already, well sorta. It was about 70 degrees in the bed room when I got home last night after the show (I'll get to that later). All the dirt patches around the house are filled with ant hills. And the birds are back (singing their hearts out).
Now the show. Yesterday at about 5:30 Keith, I and two other souls drove to Muncie, Indiana. It was a three hour drive. And the show started at eight so lets just say we were a little late. We got their right as Convicted started. I was one of 10 people there that got into this band. It was my second time seeing them and I was pretty excited. They played four songs and in my opinion were awesome. After that I picked up a copy of their 7" (on Organized Crime Records). It's out of 30 with a One Life Crew rip off cover (so I'm siked). After that Blacklisted played. Once again they were awesome. I think I thought they had become a crappy band because of me seeing them one time at Bernies, but that place makes a lot of good bands sound bad (And it had been 3 years since I had seen them before that). And after the show we stopped at Taco Bell, 3 gas stations and a Lions Den that had a it's on group of christians hating on it. We stopped on the way in and the way out and made fun of them. But I think the dude running the lions den was almost as funny.

Tomorrow is my first day working at Sams Club. I will be under the employment of Wal-Mart Inc. And will work nights. This will eventually lead to me having money again. But will also make the amount of shows I will be able to go to will be very slim. I will be a making appearance at Youngblood Fest. Possibly at Modern Life Is War and at Surroundings (both in Louisville).

Now A look to the future of this blog and what it holds. Many of the old standards and some new faves. Old - Some dailys, some semi show reviews and random pictures that I take or find. New - Reviews of records, tapes and even merch. And most likely even more stuff I haven't even thought of yet.

Weed Steeler in the news (throw back two)

I was just listing to the 4 tracks Weed Steeler has up on their myspace(Over and over again). And I remembered they two were featured in the Alive magizine. Now this was way back on September 20th, 2007. Oh yeah here is the link... MMMMM NAME DROP.

My new kingdom

Louisville, Kentucky aka The 'Ville is my new home. This post has been some weeks in the making and I'm still having trouble thinking of things to say. I have yet to go to a show since I have moved down here, but the few I went to before I relocated had a very different feel then the Columbus shows I was used too. Kids are a lot younger, prolly 16-19. So not very tattooed and old like Ohio shows. And also from what I understand this is a city of sell outs. But I guess almost anywhere is like that.

I am continuing collections. Not as much records (at least non ebay scores) mostly because the record stores here are overpriced and only get boring records. But I keep having amazing tape finds, from Gang Starr to Rancid and from Anthrax to TSOL. I have over 200 tapes in that collection right now. My toy collection is growing very quickly. Ultra Pop, A pretty neat store here is helping that collection grow by the week. I have some of the little "Dunny" figures And a Blank "Munny" that will soon become a skinhead If I can get the courage up to mark on it. But my main focus in that collection is are these Donuts by artist Heidi Kenney distributed by Kidrobot. And on the game front I am only looking for Conkers Bad Fur Day for Nintendo 64.

Now the reason I moved down here my girlfriend. Well we have had our ups and downs but for the past two weeks things have been amazing. I went in one day and hung out with her at work (a preschool/day-care) and it was a lot of fun. And just being able to lay in bed with her or go out and get some chips and salsa is what I have been missing. And the only thing that is not perfect about this whole thing is I don't have a job again. Yep thats right once again I'm a jobless loser. A have applied at atleast 10 different places with only one panning out so far as even an interview (Wednesday at Bestbuy) . But I guess Target is "going to" call me back tomorrow. And I'm calling back Samsclub, Express, Cheesecake Factory and Qdoba sometime tomorrow. I just need a job right now.

Also I will be updating this more often. A big sorry goes out to Peter for slacking so much.

Cold World in the news (throw back)

I was reading through a blog called Hardcore Shirt and saw a link to an article in the Columbus Alive paper from July 19th, 2007. This made me nerd up for a second... I had forgotten about this. Of course I'm pictured in this, I am a living legend.

Reflect

On Wednesday 01/09/08 Columbus, Ohio's own 80's hardcore throwback (think Dag Nasty/Rights Of Spring) played at the LOD (Legion Of Doom) with Screaming Females (who to me are very boring and played far too long of a set). I stood upstairs until Reflect played because I'm that guy I guess that came to see the one hardcore band playing a house punk show (or maybe sometimes I just have good musical taste). Its been quite a while since I've seen Reflect live, and their singer Rob has only become a better front man. With his head not centimeters from the ceiling of the basement he jumps and throw himself all over the stage. I've not seen many better bands play at the LOD especially local bands and it boggles my mind why a label hasn't picked these dudes up. Im sure a lot are looking for bands that can tour out and Reflect dudes can't do too much of that (some people have real jobs, who'da thunk it), but other then that, the band is on point. I can see this late 80's sound on the comeback. And with bands like Right Idea And Reflect hailing from Ohio maybe we can get some of the limelight again.

A few pictures from that show.

Let Down

Last saturday (01/05/08) Jakob, Anthony, Alex and I drove up to Cleveland (The Tower) to see Let Down, Braindead, Right Idea, Mad Minds and two bands Lukas was booking at the trap house but had jumped on the Tower show, Shut It Down and Fare Thee Well (these two bands opened). I didn't pay much attention to Shut it down until they covered Brand New, and then after that they didn't jump out at me as anything that spectacular. I missed Fare Thee Well as Jakob and I went down the road a bit to get something to drink. Braindead played next they were pretty good and afterwards when I went to buy a 7" they had left (Kinda sucked, reminded me of Desperate Measures ala 2004 at Play Fast Or Die). After that Right Idea Played, they blew me away. I really think this band is gonna get huge. After that Mad Minds played they were really good also, Judge cover people going crazy. Lastly Letdown played, they were pretty good I didn't watch the whole set because I was in the other room holding the door as fireworks were thrown into the room where the bands were playing. Fireworks were going off pretty much the whole show. But not until later were mortars and other bigger fireworks going off. In some ways I think people went a little too far but no one got hurt (more than little boo boos) so all and all it was fun. I might have missed a few bands that played, it was kinda like band after band in the middle.

I took a few pictures at the show most did not come out because all the smoke. One came out amazing though (that is Alex in the front there).

Afterwards we all met up at a Denny's in Medina. Of the people with us sixteen of eighteen were straight edge. I found this to be rather funny. We had a lot of fun, I ate yummy food and before we left this picture was taken of us all together (the guy in the light blue and the lady jumped in because they played a big part in our food fun that night).
